So, here’s where I, the Countess Drusilla Steele, am supposed to tell you a little bit about myself. Shouldn’t be too hard, surely. Perhaps I’ll start with how I chose my name. In this day and age, if a woman wants to stand out from the crowd, she must use a proper title. Mrs just doesn’t cut it, Countess is much more appropriate. Obviously.
Drusilla is the name of my favourite Vampire, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Can I get a “Joss Whedon is a genius”) Second favourite, of course, would be Spike.
Steele is the surname of the front man from Type O Negative. And boy, oh boy, can I go on about him! And I probably will. For so many reasons. Just not now.
As for what else you need to know? I’m a writer, who has just finished the first draft of a Vampire novel. I’m a mental health professional with a BA in Psychology and countless (get it?) years of experience working with people who are experiencing mental distress. And I’m a reader, who loves nothing more than climbing into my spa on a balmy evening with my kindle loaded with Vampire books.
And here’s what you can expect from moi:
Blog Posts: I’ve got lots to say, on lots of topics, and I love to put it all down on paper. Or computer. You know what I mean.
My Weight Loss: Actually that’s not quite accurate. I’m going to talk about the weird shit that happens when you lose a lot of weight. The things nobody tells you about, like excess toilet paper use, and flabby, overflowing skin.
Body Positivism: Yep, I’m a fat girl, who’s dieting, but doesn’t intend to ever get skinny. (even if I could) That may sound like a contradiction, but trust me, it isn’t. You can feel fabulous at any age, size, colour, or creed, and it’s nobody’s damn business but your own!
Mental Health: Between my own Depression, working in the mental health industry, and my Psychology degree, I know a bit about this side of things. It’s an ongoing battle for me, and I’m definitely an advocate for looking after yourself, in whatever way works for you, and educating those unfortunate enough to never experience mental health issues. You know, those people that really need a good dose of Depression, so that maybe then, they might understand it. And. Don’t. Get. Me. Started. About. The. Suicide. Rate!!!
Bloodsucking Fiends: Dracula! Spike! Drusilla! No sparklers allowed!!! I have loved, and been terrified of, Vampires for years. Long before they became fashionable again. Real Vampires though, not namby pamby, sparkly wannabes. Ick.
I should mention a few things that are probably going to pop up in my writing as well. These are the other passions that I’m slightly less obsessive about (right at this moment, anyway). These include:
- My ridiculously tall husband, from now on referred to as The Count
- My furbabies, two cats, two dogs, all with behavioural issues
- Joss Whedon, needs no introduction I hope
- Books books books – but not just trilogies
- Type O negative, the band and the blood type
- Elvis, another one not needing an introduction
